Verbascum boerhavii, commonly known as the annual mullein, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the family Scrophulariaceae. It is native to Spain (including the Balearic Islands), France (including Corsica), and Italy. This species has a long history of traditional use as a treatment for haemorrhoids. It contains the phenylpropanoid glycoside poliumoside, a compound that has an affinity for metalloproteinases.
