About Venatrix furcillata (L.Koch, 1867)

Venatrix furcillata is a medium-sized species of wolf spider found in eastern Australia. Females reach a maximum body length of 13 mm, while males reach a maximum body length of 9 mm. This spider has distinctive tapering markings on its abdomen. It is sometimes found in suburban gardens and lawns. It typically lives in a simple burrow, but may migrate in large groups to a communal web; this behaviour is unusual for wolf spiders. The egg sac produced by females is grey, spherical, and approximately 6 mm in diameter. Females carry this egg sac with them. Each egg sac holds between 45 and 60 individual eggs, each measuring 0.8 mm in diameter. Venatrix furcillata preys on ground-dwelling insects. Confirmed populations of this spider are located in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
