About Vayssierea felis (Collingwood, 1881)

Vayssierea felis is a red-orange nudibranch that can reach a maximum size of 6 millimeters. This species reproduces through direct development, and lays egg masses that contain between 3 and 5 eggs. It was originally described from specimens collected in the South China Sea. Many researchers argue that all species in the genus Vayssierea are actually a single widespread species, which has a broader range across the Indo-West Pacific. It has also been recently recorded in San Diego, California, an area that forms part of its non-native range. Vayssierea felis is found in the intertidal zone, and it is most often found associated with the Spirorbis tube worms that it eats. It feeds specifically on these Spirorbis tube worms within intertidal habitats.
