About Vasula melones (Duclos, 1832)

This species is scientifically named Vasula melones (Duclos, 1832). The maximum recorded length of its shell is 49 mm. The shell is dark chestnut in color, mottled with white markings; white variegation is most prominent on the periphery and the inferior portion of the body whorl. The columella has a pink tint. The outer lip is often outlined with a black border. This species lacks nodules or spines, which does not match the typical characteristics of its group, but it is still moderately closely related to Vasula deltoidea. In adult individuals, the body whorl is sometimes constricted around its middle. This is a marine species found in waters off Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands.
