About Vanessa carye (Hübner, 1812)
Vanessa carye, commonly known as the western painted lady, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Nymphalidae. This species is distributed across South America, ranging from the mountains of Colombia and the area west of Caracas, Venezuela, through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, southern Brazil, and Paraguay, all the way to Patagonia in Argentina. It can also be found on Easter Island and the Tuamotus. The larvae of Vanessa carye feed on Achyrocline flaccida as well as many other plant species.
