About Vanduzea segmentata Fowler

Vanduzea segmentata is a treehopper species that belongs to the genus Vanduzea. It was first formally described in 1895 by British entomologist William Weekes Fowler, under the original name Hypamastris segmentata. This species can be found across the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, northern South America, and also Hawaii. Its presence in Hawaii is most likely the result of spread facilitated by certain insects and plants. Because of its broad geographic range, Vanduzea segmentata feeds on a variety of different trees and plant species. These recorded host plants are Albizia julibrissin, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Bidens alba, Datura stramonium, Heterotheca subaxillaris, and Melilotus alba.
