About Valenciennea longipinnis (Lay & Bennett, 1839)

Valenciennea longipinnis, commonly called the long-finned goby, is a recognized goby species. It is native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. In this range, the species inhabits lagoons and areas with fine sand substrates. Most individuals live at depths of less than 3 metres (9.8 ft). They may occasionally be found as deep as 6 metres (20 ft), and are rarely found deeper than this. This species can reach a total length of 18 centimetres (7.1 in) measured as standard length. It has minor importance to local commercial fisheries, and is also available within the aquarium trade.
