About Vaccinium padifolium Sm.
Vaccinium padifolium Sm. is a semi-evergreen plant that grows as a scrub or small tree, reaching 1.5 to 6 meters in height. New branches are typically reddish and covered in fine short hairs. Leaves often turn a dark red flush in autumn; they measure 2.5–7 cm long by 1–2(2.5) cm wide, and are shaped oblong to elliptic, with tips ranging from acute to acuminate. Leaf petioles are short and pubescent. The calyx measures 3–4 mm, and has five short, broad lobes that reach up to 1.5 mm in length. Flowers grow on curved pedicels, arranged in erect, axillary, bracteate racemes. The corolla measures 7–10 mm, and is shaped globose to campanulate with very short lobes. The white corolla often features five broad rose-colored stripes. Berries grow up to 12 × 10 mm, and ripen to a blue-black color.
