About Utricularia uliginosa Vahl
Utricularia uliginosa, commonly known as the Asian bladderwort, is a small annual carnivorous plant in the genus Utricularia. This species is native to three main regions: Southeast Asia, where it occurs in Borneo, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Java, Korea, Peninsular Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Sumatra, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam; Oceania, where it is found in Guam, New Caledonia, New Guinea, and Palau; and Australia, where it grows in New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia. Utricularia uliginosa grows as either a terrestrial or subaquatic plant. It typically inhabits seasonally flooded shallow pools with sandy soils, stream banks, and spaces among rocky stream beds at low altitudes. It was first formally described by botanist Martin Vahl in 1804.
