About Usnea intermedia (A.Massal.) Jatta

Usnea intermedia, commonly known as the western bushy beard, is a fruticose lichen. It has a pale green color that ranges between grayish and yellowish, is irregularly and heavily branched, and forms a stiff, shrubby growth form. It typically anchors to tree bark via holdfasts, and is often found growing on oaks. This lichen produces abundant apothecia, which are convex disc-shaped structures that have a thallus-like ring margin, with tendril-shaped fringes radiating out from this margin. In North America, this species was formerly classified and named Usnea arizonica.
