About Uraeginthus granatinus (Linnaeus, 1766)

This species has the scientific name Uraeginthus granatinus, originally described by Linnaeus in 1766. It is also known by the common names violet-eared waxbill and common grenadier, and has previously been classified under the scientific name Granatina granatina. It is a common species of estrildid finch that inhabits drier areas of Southern Africa. Specifically, it occurs in subtropical or tropical lowland dry shrubland and savanna habitats across Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This species has been evaluated as Least Concern for conservation status.
