About Unio mancus Lamarck, 1819

Unio mancus Lamarck, 1819 is a species of freshwater mussel. The shells of this species typically grow to 55–65 millimetres (2.2–2.6 inches) in size, and can reach a maximum size of 10 centimetres (3.9 inches). The periostracum (outer shell layer) of this mussel is dark brown or yellowish-green. Its shells are equivalve, inequilateral, and oval-shaped, with a rounded anterior margin and a truncated posterior margin. The inner surface of the shell is iridescent white. This species is distributed from northeastern Spain across the Mediterranean zone, into northeastern Africa and the Middle East. It occurs in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Syria, and Turkey.
