About Umbonium vestiarium (Linnaeus, 1758)

Umbonium vestiarium (Linnaeus, 1758) produces solid, rounded shells that reach up to 2 cm in width. These shells are similar to those of the genus Oxystele, but they are more flattened, with a glossy exterior that is highly variable and colourfully patterned. This species lives on eulittoral sand, and its distribution spans the Indo-Pacific region. In Vietnam, this species is called "ốc ruốc" and is commonly sold as a snack.
