About Umbilicus horizontalis (Guss.) DC.
Umbilicus horizontalis, commonly called the horizontal navelwort, is a fleshy perennial flowering plant. It belongs to the genus Umbilicus in the family Crassulaceae, and is native to rocky habitats across the Mediterranean Basin and Middle East, ranging from the Azores in the west to Oman in the east. Horizontal navelwort grows to an average height of 25 cm (10 in). It produces thickly clustered, pale green bell-shaped flowers that grow in a raceme oriented perpendicular to the flowering spike. This horizontal arrangement differs from the drooping flowers of common navelwort, which gives the species its common name "horizontal". The plant often grows on shady walls or in damp rock crevices with sparse other vegetation. Its succulent, dark green leaves grow in rosettes that reach about 7 cm (3 in) wide. While horizontal navelwort is similar to common navelwort in many ways, it is noticeably more succulent.
