About Uma rufopunctata Cope, 1895

The Yuman Desert fringe-toed lizard, scientifically known as Uma cowlesi, is a phrynosomatid lizard species. It is endemic to northwestern Mexico. A hybrid population formed by this species and Uma notata ranges north into southwestern Arizona, United States. This lizard species is restricted to the Yuma Desert, where it occurs in a small coastal portion of the Mexican state of Sonora. The hybrid between Uma cowlesi and U. notata, which is referred to as "Uma rufopunctata", ranges further north through Sonora into southern Arizona. The Reptile Database incorrectly lists this species as endemic to Arizona.
