This species was described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1882, with its scientific name originally published as Udea washingtonalis Grote, 1881. It is distributed across North America, with confirmed records from Alaska, British Columbia, California, Montana, and Washington. The wingspan of this moth is approximately 21 millimeters. Adult moths are active in flight from May through August.
