This small moth species, Udea ferrugalis Hübner, 1796, has a wingspan ranging from 18 to 22 mm. Its forewings have a yellow, brown, or ferruginous base color, with prominent but indistinct dark brown to blackish markings positioned closer to the wing edge. The hindwings of this moth are brownish grey, and its legs are whitish. Fully grown caterpillars of Udea ferrugalis reach a length of 10–15 millimetres (0.39–0.59 inches). They are greenish in body color, with a yellowish head. This species is distributed across central and southern Europe, Asia Minor, Africa, India, and Japan.
