About Tymbophora peltastis Meyrick, 1890

Tymbophora is a monotypic genus of moths belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. The only species in this genus is Tymbophora peltastis, which occurs across most of Australia. The wingspan of T. peltastis ranges from 19 to 27 mm. The species' forewings are a very pale whitish-ochreous color, marked with fine scattered black or brownish scales. The forewings are more or less tinged or suffused with pale fuscous, except in the anterior half of the costa, and this suffusion is sometimes very faint. A trapezoidal deep brown-red blotch, dusted with black and a few ochreous-whitish scales, runs along the inner margin from the one-third to three-fourths position. This blotch narrows as it extends upward, has a straight upper edge, and does not reach halfway across the wing. Three or four brownish dots are also present on the posterior half of the costa. The hindwings are fuscous-grey, and are more or less suffused with pale whitish-ochreous on their anterior portion. Tymbophora peltastis larvae feed on Eucalyptus polyanthemos and Angophora costata, webbing green leaves together with silk and feeding beneath the bark of their host plants.
