About Tylorida striata (Thorell, 1877)

Tylorida striata (Thorell, 1877) is an orb-weaving spider species that exhibits the sexual dimorphism typical of many orb-weaving spiders. Female T. striata have a body length ranging from 3.75 to 4.97 mm. This species can be told apart from its close relatives by specific physical traits: males lack ventral, cone-like macrosetae on the first and second tibiae, as well as on the metatarsi and tarsi. T. striata has characteristic body coloration and patterning, and paired tubercles are present on the tip of its abdomen. It builds standard orb webs and has been observed living in a variety of habitats across its range. T. striata has been recorded in the Comoros, India, China, and Southeast Asia, with its distribution extending to Queensland in northern Australia. It is widely distributed across tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, with confirmed records from Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and multiple islands across the Indo-Pacific region.
