About Tylecodon buchholzianus (Schuldt & P.Stephan) Toelken
Tylecodon buchholzianus is a shrub that grows to a height of approximately 20 to 30 centimeters. It grows slowly during winter and enters dormancy in summer. Its main stem is a swollen, thickened caudex that can reach up to 30 centimeters in diameter, and it produces many elongated whitish or grey branches. Nearly cylindrical green leaves, each around 10 centimeters long, grow in spring. Photosynthesis can also be carried out by microscopic leaflets growing on the stem. The flowers are pale pink with recurved lobes, and they emerge from tubes attached to short petioles. Its flowering period runs from January through to late spring. This species is native to Namaqualand, which spans parts of South Africa and Namibia.
