The blue-spotted wood dove, also called the blue-spotted dove, has the scientific name Turtur afer (Linnaeus, 1766). It is a species of bird belonging to the pigeon and dove family Columbidae. This bird is abundant across most of Africa located south of the Sahel. It occurs in only parts of East Africa, and is not found in southern Africa at all.
