Compared to the olive thrush, Turdus smithi has a longer, fully yellow bill, longer wings, and greyer flanks. This bird is found in South Africa, where it occurs in Little Namaqualand, the Karoo, Northern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and parts of the North West Province.
