About Turdus simillimus Jerdon, 1839

The Indian blackbird, with the scientific name Turdus simillimus, is a species in the thrush bird family Turdidae. This species was previously classified as a subspecies of the common blackbird. It is found exclusively in India and Sri Lanka. Four subspecies that occur across most of the Indian subcontinent — simillimus, nigropileus, bourdilloni, and spencei — are small, measuring just 19–20 centimetres (7.5–7.9 inches) in length, and have broad eye-rings. These four subspecies also differ from the common blackbird in body proportions, wing formula, egg color, and vocalizations.
