About Tulipa urumiensis Stapf
Tulipa urumiensis, commonly known as the late tulip or tardy tulip, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Liliaceae. It is a bulbous perennial plant. Some sources list Tulipa tarda as its accepted scientific name. Its bulb has a leathery tunic that is hairless on the inner surface. It produces up to seven linear green leaves, which can reach up to 20 centimeters in length. The flowering stem grows between 4 and 20 centimeters long. Its flowers are yellow with white tips, and both the anthers and stamens are yellow. Tulipa urumiensis is native to central Asia, where it grows in rocky subalpine meadows of the Tian Shan mountains. This species was confused with Tulipa dasystemon for a long time. It was first scientifically described in 1932 by Otto Stapf, and described again under the name T. tarda in 1933. In the Northern Hemisphere, this plant blooms in late April and early May. It received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
