About Tulipa regelii Krasn.

Tulipa regelii Krasn., commonly called the plicate tulip or Regel's tulip, is a tulip species native to southeast Kazakhstan. It is a rare plant that grows only in specific dry, rocky areas of the Chu-Ili Range, a northern subrange of the Tian Shan mountains. It is a very distinctive species with unusual plicate leaves. Plants typically produce just one leaf, and occasionally two. This species was first formally described and named by Russian botanist and geographer Andrej Nikolaevich Krasnov. It flowers in April.
