About Tubuca signata (Hess, 1865)

This species is scientifically named Tubuca signata (Hess, 1865). In Tubuca signata, males have one significantly enlarged claw, while females have two smaller claws of equal size. In adult males, the upper claw (called the pollex) is smooth and bright white, and the lower claw (called the dactyl) has a single groove running along its entire length. The wrist region (called the manus) of the claw is red. The male carapace of this species is typically up to 17 mm wide, with 95% of male individuals reaching this size or smaller. Females of the species are slightly smaller than males.
