About Tropisternus lateralis (Fabricius, 1775)

This species has the scientific name Tropisternus lateralis (Fabricius, 1775). Adults of the subspecies T. lateralis nimabatus, which is found in the eastern United States, are distinguished by uniformly dark elytra and pronotum with light-colored borders. The overall range of T. lateralis covers North America as far north as southern Canada, South America south to northern Chile and Argentina, the Caribbean, and the Galápagos Islands. The subspecies T. lateralis humeralis has been accidentally introduced to Oahu.
