About Tropidothorax leucopterus (Goeze, 1778)
Tropidothorax leucopterus (Goeze, 1778) adults reach a body length of 9–10 millimetres, or 0.35–0.39 inches. The bodies of these bugs are oval-elongated, with a distinct striking red-black warning coloration. The head is black, with a small red spot at its center. The pronotum is primarily black, with black lateral margins, a black central stripe, and a red stripe along its front edge. A median keel runs from the front edge of the pronotum all the way to its posterior margin. The scutellum and clavus of the hemelytra are black, while the corium is predominantly red. The membrane is matte black, with a white spot at the inner angle. The connexivum has alternating black and red spots. The abdomen is red with black spots, and both the antennae and legs are entirely black. This species occurs across most of central and southern Europe, North Africa, Turkey, the Caucasus, Iran, and Central Asia. Within Europe, it has been recorded in Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia.
