About Tropidia quadrata (Say, 1824)

Tropidia quadrata (Say, 1824), commonly called the common thickleg fly, is a common species of syrphid fly. It can be observed across north-central United States and southern Canada, and is also distributed more broadly across Canada and the United States. Like other hoverflies, this species can stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adults are also known as flower flies, because they are commonly found on flowers, where they get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. The larvae of this species are aquatic.
