About Tropidia albistylum Macquart, 1847

Tropidia albistylum (Macquart, 1847), commonly called the Yellow-thighed Thickleg Fly, is a rare species of syrphid fly. It has been observed in the eastern and central United States. Syrphid flies are also known as hoverflies because they can stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies are often called flower flies, since they are commonly found on flowers, where they collect energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. The larvae of this species are aquatic. This species is distributed across eastern United States and Canada. Confirmed records of this species range as far west as Nebraska, and as far north as Norfolk County, Ontario.
