About Trollius europaeus L.

Trollius europaeus L. reaches up to 60 centimeters in height. It bears bright yellow, globe-shaped flowers that can grow up to 3 centimeters across. The colorful petal-like sepals of the flower conceal 5 to 15 inconspicuous true petals, which have nectaries at their base. Like other members of its plant family, it also has a large number of stamens. Each flower produces a large number of wrinkled follicles. Its leaves are deeply divided into 3 to 5 toothed lobes. This species grows on damp ground in shady areas, including woodland and scrub. It flowers between June and August. Its pollination is mostly carried out by seed-eating flies from the genus Chiastocheta, part of the Anthomyiidae family.
