About Trogonoptera brookiana (Wallace, 1855)

Both sexes of Trogonoptera brookiana, commonly called Rajah Brooke's birdwing, resemble its more range-restricted relative, the Palawan birdwing. However, male Rajah Brooke's birdwings have more green coloration on their hindwings. The wingspan of Rajah Brooke's birdwing ranges from 15–17 cm (5.9–6.7 in). Male Rajah Brooke's birdwings have primarily black wings. Each of their forewings bears seven tooth-shaped electric-green markings, and a relatively large electric-green patch covers the hindwings. Their head is bright red, and their black body has red markings. Female Rajah Brooke's birdwings have browner wings, with prominent white patches at the forewing tips and the hindwing base.
