About Trochulus striolatus (C.Pfeiffer, 1828)
The shell of Trochulus striolatus is round, measures 10 to 15 mm, and has a depressed, low conical spire. Its whorls are convex with relatively deep sutures, and the final whorl is angled along its periphery. The shell ranges in color from whitish to yellowish-brown or reddish-brown, has irregular growth lines, and often displays a pale band on the angled periphery. Adult shells are hairless, while juvenile shells carry scattered coarse hair. This snail is native to northwestern Europe, and is found in the British Isles (including Great Britain and Ireland), the Netherlands, and Slovakia. The subspecies Trochulus striolatus danubialis has a Danubian distribution.
