Trochodendron aralioides Siebold & Zucc. is an evergreen tree or large shrub that reaches up to 20 meters in height. Its leaves grow in tight spirals at the tip of each year's new growth. Each leaf is leathery, dark green, simple, and broad lanceolate, measuring 6 to 14 centimeters long and 3 to 8 centimeters wide, with a crenate (scalloped-toothed) margin. 10 to 20 flowers grow together in a racemose cyme that has a diameter of 5 to 13 centimeters. Each individual flower is 15 to 18 millimeters across, yellowish green, and lacks petals. It has a visible, prominent ring of 40 to 70 stamens that surrounds 4 to 11 carpels. Its fruit is 2 centimeters in diameter, woody, and star-shaped, made up of 4 to 11 follicles. Each of these follicles contains several seeds.
