About Trochalopteron morrisonianum Ogilvie-Grant, 1906
The white-whiskered laughingthrush (scientific name Trochalopteron morrisonianum Ogilvie-Grant, 1906) is a large laughingthrush species, measuring 26 to 28 cm (10 to 11 in) in length, with a characteristic distinctive facial pattern. It has a thrush-like bill that ranges in color from yellowish to horn-colored, black eyes, and strong, brownish pink legs. Its average body weight is around 77 grams (2.7 oz). This is a sociable species that is often found in large groups, and it is not generally afraid of humans. In terms of habitat and ecology, the species lives at elevations between 1,475 and 3,300 m (4,839 and 10,827 ft) above sea level, and most commonly occurs above 2000 m. It inhabits tall grass, forest undergrowth, thickets, and scrub at forest edges, and can also be found in open areas alongside roads and within forest clearings. Within Yushan National Park, the species was found to be more abundant in mixed coniferous forest than in grassland, pine woodland, or spruce forest. Alongside Taiwan fulvetta (Fulvetta formosana) and Taiwan yuhina (Yuhina brunneiceps), it is a dominant species in this mixed coniferous forest habitat. It is a ground-dwelling omnivore.
