Triticum turgidum L. is a species of wheat, whose various subspecies are commonly called pasta wheat, macaroni wheat, and durum wheat. It is an annual plant that grows primarily in temperate regions. Its native range extends from countries around the eastern Mediterranean, down to Iran, and east as far as Xinjiang, China. Its specific native territories include Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, North Caucasus (a region of Russia), Syria, Palestine, Transcaucasus (also called South Caucasus, which includes Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan), Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Xinjiang, China. This species has been introduced to many other regions around the world. In Europe, it has been introduced to Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Corsica, Crete, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, the East Aegean Islands, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Madeira, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sardinia, Sicily, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Yugoslavia. In Africa, introduced locations include Algeria, the Canary Islands, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe. In Central Asia, it has been introduced to Afghanistan, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, West Himalaya, and Yemen. Within Russia, it has been introduced to Central European Russia, Crimea, East European Russia, North European Russia, Northwest European Russia, South European Russia, and West Siberia. In broader Asia, introduced locations are Assam, Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Tibet. In the Americas, it has been introduced to Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan in Canada; Honduras in South America; northeastern and northwestern Mexico; and New York in the United States.
