About Trithemis donaldsoni (Calvert, 1899)
Trithemis donaldsoni (Calvert, 1899) is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Libellulidae. Its common names are denim dropwing and Donaldson's dropwing. This dropwing occurs in southern and eastern Africa, ranging from South Africa and Namibia in the south to Ethiopia in the north. Confirmed or accepted records of the species come from Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Records of Trithemis donaldsoni from West Africa are considered doubtful, because this species is extremely similar in appearance to Trithemis dejouxi. The natural habitats of Trithemis donaldsoni include streams and rivers located in areas of bush, savanna, and woodland. Males of this species are typically observed perching on rocks in the middle of streams. Trithemis donaldsoni can also be found living in some reservoirs.
