About Triops australiensis (Spencer & Hall, 1896)

Triops australiensis (Spencer & Hall, 1896) is an Australian species of tadpole shrimp in the genus Triops, sometimes commonly called shield shrimp. This species has a wide distribution across Australia. It is not found in the northernmost regions of Western Australia, the state of Queensland, or southern Tasmania. In Tasmania, Lepidurus apus replaces Triops australiensis. The two species can be distinguished by a physical trait: L. apus has a supra-anal plate between the caudal rami at the end of its abdomen, which T. australiensis lacks.
