About Triopha maculata MacFarland, 1905

Triopha maculata, a species of nudibranch, reaches a maximum length of 180 mm (just over 7 inches) only on rare occasions; its typical maximum length is 50 mm (around 2 inches). The species displays a wide range of body coloration, including very pale translucent yellow, darker yellow, orange, red, and even dark brown. All individuals of this species have raised whitish spots, which is the reason for its specific epithet maculata, meaning spotted. This nudibranch is distributed in the eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, south to Baja California, Mexico. It is also found in Japan.
