Trillium ludovicianum Harb. is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches up to 12 inches, or 30 centimeters, in height. Its flowers can be dark red, purple, or dark green, and sometimes have irregular markings. This species grows in moist woods and floodplains. On average, the total height of the plant increases by 50% within ten days after its flower opens. Over this same ten-day period, the length of the plant’s petals almost doubles.
