About Trifolium macraei Hook. & Arn.
Trifolium macraei Hook. & Arn. is a species of clover with three accepted common names: Chilean clover, double-head clover, and MacRae's clover. This species has a disjunct distribution: it grows on the coastline of Oregon and California in the United States, and also grows in South America. Its typical habitats are coastal environments including sand dunes, as well as disturbed areas. It is an annual herb that grows in either a decumbent or erect form. Its leaves are composed of oval leaflets that measure 1 to 2 centimeters long. Its inflorescence usually consists of two oval or rounded flower heads, and each individual head reaches up to 1.5 centimeters wide. Every flower has a calyx made of sepals that taper into densely hairy bristles. The flower corolla may be solid purple, or bicolored with white or pink sections.
