About Tricyrtis hirta (Thunb.) Hook.
Tricyrtis hirta (Thunb.) Hook., commonly known as toad lily or hairy toad lily, and called Hototogisu-sou in Japanese, is a hardy herbaceous perennial plant species in the lily family Liliaceae. This Japanese species grows on shaded rocky cliffs and stream banks in central and southern Japan. Its leaves are large and wide, and clasp around the stem. Its flowers range from whitish to pale purple, with dark purple spots. Two recognized varieties are recorded: Tricyrtis hirta var. hirta, native to central and southern Japan, and Tricyrtis hirta var. masamunei (Makino) Masam, found in Kyushu.
