About Tricyanaula aurantiaca (Walsingham, 1887)

Tricyanaula aurantiaca is a moth species that belongs to the family Gelechiidae. It was first described by Thomas de Grey, 6th Baron Walsingham, in 1887. This species is found in Sri Lanka. The wingspan of this moth measures approximately 10 mm.

The forewings are a bright orange-red color. A slender metallic streak, which changes color from steel-blue to bright green depending on lighting, runs from the base along the wing's costa for a little more than one-third of the wing's total length. At this point, the streak diverges obliquely downwards and ends on the discal cell. After the costal angle of this streak comes a short, black oblique streak along the costa. After a somewhat wider gap beyond this black streak, there is a bright steel-blue spot. Beneath this spot sits an even larger spot of the same color that reaches almost to the dorsal margin; both spots are edged with black scales.

Below the first metallic costal streak, there is a similar metallic streak that also starts at the base of the wing, running along the fold to the fold's middle. Further below this streak, near the dorsal margin, there are a few additional similar steel-blue metallic scales. Beyond the outer spots, the entire apical portion of the forewing is deep brown, marked with one subcostal and three subapical metallic blue spots. The hindwings are brown.
