About Trichosurus caninus (Ogilby, 1835)

The short-eared possum, with the scientific name Trichosurus caninus, is a species of marsupial in the family Phalangeridae that is endemic to Australia. It is found on Australia's eastern coast, north of Sydney, New South Wales. This species was previously classified as part of the mountain brushtail possum, which is its closest relative. In the wild, short-eared possums can live up to 17 years, and they may live even longer in captivity. They maintain stable territories and invest a large amount of time and energy into raising their young. Short-eared possums are most commonly found along the southeastern coast of Australia, where they live in wet rainforests and humid, dense thickets.
