About Triactis producta Klunzinger, 1877
Triactis producta is a small, well-camouflaged, pale brown sea anemone. Its base reaches approximately 1 centimeter (0.4 inches) in diameter, and its column tapers slightly, growing to around 1.5 centimeters (0.6 inches) in height. The column is topped by a crown of roughly 50 relatively long tentacles. A ring of branching, pale brown pseudo-tentacles is located halfway up the column. These pseudo-tentacles are tubular extensions of the column wall, and a small number of semi-spherical bulges called vesicles form on their upper surface. The vesicles can be grey, pink, or green, and are packed with stinging cells known as cnidocytes. Triactis producta occurs in shallow tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, with a range that extends from the Red Sea and Mozambique to Hawaii and French Polynesia. This species is not easily noticed, and often grows in crevices or hidden among the branches of stony corals. It frequently forms dense clusters that are likely made up of cloned individuals.
