About Triacanthagyna septima (Selys, 1857)
Triacanthagyna septima is a relatively small darner dragonfly. It reaches a total length of 59 to 66 mm (2.3 to 2.6 in), with a wingspan ranging from 68 to 86 mm (2.7 to 3.4 in). For males, the head is olive, and the eyes are bluish-green. The thorax is pale green, with a brownish tint on the front, and the legs are pale. Most of the abdomen is brown; segments 1 and 2 have greenish sides and a slender greenish dorsal stripe. Females have very similar coloration to males, but have greenish-brown eyes and three long, slender cerci (appendages) on the last abdominal segment. These cerci may break off in mature female individuals, leaving them closely resembling males.
