About Treron olax (Temminck, 1823)

The little green pigeon, scientifically known as Treron olax, is a bird species that belongs to the Columbidae pigeon family. It can be found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. This species is smaller than all other species in the Treron genus. Adults of this pigeon measure approximately 21 to 22 cm, or 8.3 to 8.7 inches, in total length. The species displays sexual dimorphism: males have an orange neck patch that shades into yellow on the underside, along with a maroon mantle. These markings are not present on females; females are mostly olive green on their upper body and yellow on their underside. Like all other green pigeons, the little green pigeon is frugivorous, meaning it feeds on fruit, and inhabits forested areas.
