About Trapania vitta Gosliner & Fahey, 2008
Trapania vitta is a species of goniodorid nudibranch first described by Gosliner & Fahey in 2008. The body of this nudibranch is opaque white. Its gills and rhinophores are white with orange tips, while its lateral papillae are completely white. The oral tentacles are orange, and there is usually an orange line that runs partway from the tip of the tail toward the gills. This species' coloration is similar to Trapania aurata, but in T. aurata, the lateral papillae have orange tips. Another mostly white related species is Trapania gibbera. This species was originally described from specimens collected in Bali, Indonesia. Additional specimens have been found in Luzon, Philippines, and the species has also been reported from Queensland, East Timor, and Vanuatu. Trapania vitta is thought to feed on Entoprocta, a group of sessile aquatic invertebrates that commonly grow on sponges and other living substrates.
