About Trapania tartanella (Ihering, 1886)

Trapania tartanella is a species of goniodorid nudibranch. Its body is translucent white with yellow-orange markings. The tips of its rhinophores, gills, and body processes are covered in yellow pigment, which changes to orange at the outermost extremities. It closely resembles Trapania hispalensis in overall coloration, differing only in that the yellow markings of T. hispalensis are uniformly colored. This species was first described from specimens collected in the Mediterranean. It can be found along the Atlantic coast, ranging from Portugal to Pembrokeshire in South Wales. In its ecology, Trapania tartanella feeds on Entoprocta, which commonly grow on sponges.
