About Trapania brunnea Rudman, 1987

Trapania brunnea is a species of goniodorid nudibranch first described by Rudman in 1987. The body of this nudibranch is translucent pale brown, covered in a darker brown meshwork pattern across most of its surface. The darker pattern does not extend to irregular patches located around the gills and rhinophores, or along the midline of its back. Its lateral papillae, gills, and rhinophores are primarily translucent pale brown, with scattered brown markings. This species was originally described from specimens found in New South Wales, Australia. It has additionally been recorded in Victoria, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Trapania brunnea feeds on Entoprocta, a group of invertebrates that commonly grows on sponges and other living substrates.
